Apps Calling for Positive Progression

It has been noted a lack of appropriate statues which celebrate the success of women throughout history has been shadowed by “fictional” character statues of women in Central Park, NY. Luckily, Y&R a communication firm in New York has created an application which gives voice to the users, allowing them to virtually add statues via augmented reality.
“With a new app dubbed The Whole Story, Y&R is trying to do just that — share a more comprehensive history by joining technology and public spaces. The app enables users to see, share and add virtual statues alongside existing public statues. Using augmented reality and GPS capabilities, users can locate and view statues on a map as well as learn about the person’s contributions.” (Patel).
This is a FANTASTIC example of initiative being taken, and the creation of an application with the ability to go viral while also helping with the overall progression of equality and recognition of successful women.
This inspired within me the idea of an application that would benefit the spaces on Florida State Universities campus, while also lifting spirits and pushing for a more productive and inspiring cohesive energy from the students on their daily commutes through campus.
In an effort to add a little pep to everyone’s day, pulling from Y&R’s application which enables users to post augmented pictures of statues, what if you could post (in the sense of how air-drops work) positive or appreciative comments/photos that stay for about 24/hr. cycles on specific areas on campus that would pop up on near by users phones. The idea of “positive” posting on campus can help lift some spirits during test week, or on a regular basis. Maybe inspire those who need some positive reinforcement. The application would also be a nice change of pace from the plethora of negativity that many people find clogging the web on a regular basis.
If this seems like a great idea to you, send some feedback!
